MATTHEWS

Brent L. Matthews, 52, of Van Wert, died at 10:36 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at his residence.

He was born August 23, 1957, in Van Wert, the son of Peggy A. (Waldron) Matthews, who survives in Van Wert, and the late Ralph E. Matthews. He married Becky (Gordon) Matthews, who also survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Matthews was a retired truck driver and a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert.

In addition to his mother and his wife, survivors include a son, Braxton Matthews of Van Wert; one daughter, Alyssa Matthews of Van Wert; two brothers, Randy (Renee) Matthews and Mark (Elizabeth) Matthews; a niece, Sindi Hazeltine; and a great-nephew, Brecken Hazeltine.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Father Mike Zacharias officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Mr. Matthews’ children’s education fund.

POLING

LaDonna R. Poling, 87, of Convoy, died at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born December 6, 1922, in Paulding County, the daughter of the late Minor and Hazel (Bailey) Long. On August 28, 1948, in Latty, she married Marvin L. Poling, who preceded her in death on December 13, 1996.

Survivors include two children, Jeanne (David) Rosendahl of Fort Wayne, Ind., and James (Jane) Poling of Convoy; a brother, Russell Long of Latty; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Kenneth and Gene Long, and two sisters, Louise Williamson and Norma Thornell, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Sugar Ridge Church of God near Convoy, with the Rev. Steve Waterman officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Gearhart, Mack & Jurczyk Funeral Home in Convoy and an hour prior to services Sunday at the church.

Preferred memorials: Convoy EMS Squad or Sugar Ridge Church of God.
