DUNCAN

Norma E. Duncan of Joplin, Mo., and formerly of Van Wert, died peacefully at Spring River Christian Village on Saturday, April 24, 2010.

She was born February 13, 1917, in Van Wert, to the late Fred B. and Emma C. (Gehres) Kiehl. She married Lloyd W. Duncan on October 5, 1939, and he preceded her in death in 1997.

Norma worked for Van Wert Manufacturing as a sewing machine operator and then in the family business, Wilson & Girod Hardware. She was very active in the former St. Peter’s United Church of Christ ad Church Women United in Van Wert and then the Oneco United Methodist Church in Oneco, Fla.

Always willing to give of her time to volunteer, she was active in several Golf Lakes Mobile Estates women’s groups and church women’s groups in Bradenton, Fla.

She will be remembered fondly by family and friends for her kind heart, energetic spirit, unconditional friendships, infectious laugh and sense of humor. She gave so much and asked so little. As a wife, mother, family member and friend, she gave her all.

Survivors include her son, Gary, and wife Suzanne of Joplin, Mo., in addition to stepgrandson Michael Fitzpatrick and wife Lisa and great-granddaughters Carlie and Madison, all of Joplin; stepsister Billie Good of Lima; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Brothers Leonard and Charles Kiehl and sisters Thelma Gehres and Marvel Lloyd also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, a Cowan and Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Jerry Flueckiger officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
