CAHOON

James P. Cahoon, 83, of Van Wert, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Hearth & Home in Van Wert.

He was born November 7, 1926, in Royal Oak, Mich., the son of the late Meredith A. and Roma (Gills) Cahoon. On September 6, 1948, he married Helen (Emmerth) Cahoon, who survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include six children, Kathleen Cahoon, D.O., of Noblesville, Ind., Cynthia (Paul) Brautigam of St. Marys, James P. (Kim) Cahoon of Hopewell, N.J., Robert M. Cahoon of Van Wert, William A. (Heather) Cahoon of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Thomas P. Cahoon, Ph.D., of Los Angeles, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Two brothers, William and Jack Cahoon; and a sister, Melba, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with graveside military rites performed by the combined honors unit of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 9, and 1˝ hours prior to services on Saturday at the church.
