JOHNSON

Ruth M. Johnson, 86, of Sumter, S.C., and formerly of Middle Point and Sebring, Fla., died Thursday, April 8, 2010, in Sumter.

She was born February 12, 1924, in Cambridge Village, Mich., the daughter of the late Austin and Bessie (Butts) Mason. On October 10, 1943, she married Doyt R. Johnson, who preceded her in death on May 2, 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Ann (Robert) Shively of Sumter, S.C.; one brother, Warren “Bud” (Pearl) Mason of Van Wert; a sister, Evelyn (Bill) Ludwig of Va Wert; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A sister, Irene Otti, and one grandchild, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, April 12, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Middle Point United Methodist Church or St. John’s United Methodist Church.

PHARIS

Carl Gene Pharis, 85, of Dixon, died at 2:55 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Vancrest-Convoy Care Center.

He was born March 21, 1925, in Delphos, the son of the late George and Clarus (Goings) Pharis. On March 6, 1976, he married Dorthy Mae (Place) West Pharis, who survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Sharon (Kerry) Lyons of West Liberty; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a niece.

A sister, Mary Parks, and one nephew, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy, with graveside military rites performed by the combined honor guard of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 9, at the funeral home.
