CARROLL

Barry Lynn Carroll, 49, of Van Wert, died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Van Wert County Hospital.

He was born September 2, 1959, in Van Wert, the son of the late Elmo and Ellen (Shepherd) Carroll. On July 17, 1987, he married Roxie Marie (Brown) Carroll, who survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include two sons, Travis (Jackie) Girardot and Shane Carroll, both of Van Wert; a daughter, Lisa Carroll of Van Wert; three brothers, Bill Carroll, Jim (Shirley) Carroll and Eddie Carroll, all of Van Wert; five sisters, Sue (Larry) Dowler, Faye (Jack) Trinosky and Peggy Burnett, all of Van Wert, Colleen (Michael) Rowland of Middle Point and Nancy (Louis) King of Lima; and two grandchildren.

Two brothers, Herschel Eugene Carroll and twin Kerry Lee Carroll, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 22, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Robert Frake officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Ridge Township.

The family will receive friends from 3-9 p.m. Friday, August 21, at the funeral home.

BUEL

Esther Jeanette Buel, 94, of Rockford, died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Colonial Nursing Center in Rockford, where she had been a patient.

She was born July 29, 1915, in Scott, the daughter of the late Charles and Opal (Ransbottom) Rhoades. Her grandparents, Elijah and Frances (Robinson) Rhoades, raised her after her father died when she was 3 and her mother’s health failed. On June 3, 1938, she married Brooks Buel, who preceded her in death on December 22, 2003.

Survivors include a son, Rex (Ann) Buel of Waynesboro, Va.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

A son, Donald E. Buel, and two grandchildren, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 22, at New Horizons Community Church in Rockford, with Pastor Marvin Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 21, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Preferred memorials: New Horizons Community Church or Gideons International.

ZIZELMAN

Charles W. Zizelman, 94, of Rockford, died at 9:24 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at The Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford.

He was born January 12, 1915, in Mercer County, the son of the late Chris and Edith Bertha (Brush) Zizelman. On January 8, 1937, he married Norma B. (Germann) Zizelman, who survives in Rockford.

Other survivors include a daughter, Marjorie (Earl) Brodbeck of Celina; a daughter-in-law, Esther Zizelman of Rockford; one sister, Mabel (Cloyd) Boroff of Celina; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A son, George Zizelman, and three sisters, Ruby Priddy, Marie Finley and Edna Zizelman, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 22, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve Howell officiating. Burial will be in Friends Chapel Cemetery in Rockford.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Friday, where a Rockford Eagles services will be held at 7:30 that evening, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Friends Chapel or State of the Heart Hospice.

PONTIUS

Jill Ann Pontius, 50, of Rockford, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at her residence of natural causes.

She was born June 19, 1959, the daughter of William D. Pontius, who survives in Rockford and the late Margaret E. (Stripe) Pontius.

Other survivors include three brothers, Mike (Cindy) Pontius of Fairlawn, Mich., and Richard (Claudia) Pontius and Jack (Debra) Pontius, both of Rockford; a sister, Laura Chandler of Pensacola, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

Preferred memorials: Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater.
