Mary Elizabeth “Pit” DeCamp, 96, of Van Wert, died at 5:34 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009, at Community Health Professionals’ Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born June 18, 1913, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Jesse James and Laura Hanna Marie (Rettig) Resor. On June 6, 1942, she married George A. DeCamp, who preceded her in death on April 7, 1998.

Survivors include two children, Rhett A. (Lois) DeCamp and Alycia M. DeCamp, both of Van Wert; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A brother, Paul E. Resor, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Timothy Simms officiating. Burial will be in King Cemetery near Middle Point.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 Tuesday, August 11, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: CHP Inpatient Hospice Center or Van Wert Manor nursing home.

HOVERMAN

Helen L. Hoverman, 84, of Van Wert, died at 11:55 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009, at Van Wert Manor nursing home in Van Wert.

She was born March 1, 1925, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of the late Francis Everett and Vesta Lucille (Ries) Ward. On January 24, 1943, she married Charles Olen Hoverman, who preceded her in death on July 12, 1975.

Mrs. Hoverman retired in 1985 from the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services after 17 years of service. She was a 1942 graduate of York High School in Van Wert County. She was involved with the Van Wert County Council on Aging, was president of the Ladies Aid Society at Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert, was a former church secretary at Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert, was an avid card player and cherished her grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Michael O. (Mary E.) Hoverman of Maumee and Richard “Dick” (Pam) Hoverman of Van Wert; two daughters, Mary Lou Johns of Charlotte, N.C., and Barbara Jean Furniss of Perrysburg; a brother, E. Earl (Dorothy) Ward of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Teri Sowers, also preceded her in death on January 22, 2008.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Charles Summey (grandson-in-law) of Greenville, S.C., officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.

The family will receive friends from 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Van Wert County Council on Aging or Community Health Professionals-Visiting Nurses.
