TAYLOR

Elsie Mare (Laemmle) Taylor of Crestwood Care Center in Shelby, formerly of Van Wert, died at 10:50 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009, at Crestwood Care Center.

Mother was born October 8, 1915, the second child of the late Gottlieb and Pauline Laemmle, preceded in death by a stillborn son and daughter, brothers Karl Laemmle and Elmer Laemmle, and sister Clara (Laemmle) Bebout. Mother-in-law of the late Janet (Armstrong) Taylor, grandmother of the late Stacy (Taylor) Meredith and, for 66 years, the beloved wife of the late Searle L. Taylor, who preceded her in death in May 2005.

Mother was a stay-at-home mom who worked side by side with her husband on their farm north of Van Wert. She was given a wonderful gift of voice and sang in many school and Farmer Institute plays. She directed the Emmanuel Lutheran Church children’s choir for many years and sang in the church’s adult choir. She also sang in the Trinity Lutheran Church adult choir in Cape Coral, Fla.

She would speak of fond memories when, as a child, the threshers would come to her parents’ farm and her mother, sister and she would set up long tables in the yard and prepare wonderful meals of homemade noodles, mashed potatoes, garden vegetables, fresh-baked bread and lots of pie. She enjoyed many, many summers with the family at the cottage on Matteson Lake in Michigan, even though she didn’t like the water. She never liked watching Dave or Bob ski and especially didn’t like it when father would try. These were summers of a mother and father enjoying companionship, teaching and learning from each other and forming a loving family bond that cannot be broken. She was quite the fisherwoman. She caught many bluegills and had a special way of fixing them. Mother and father spent their retired years on Pine Island, Fla. Again, when it came to fishing, she always caught the first and biggest fish. She got a lot of joy watching father anchor the boat; meanwhile, she had a shrimp on her hook and the line in the water. After several health problems, they moved from their waterfront property inland to Cape Coral. Later years and declining health forced mother to move into an assisted living facility. As St. Paul wrote to the Corinthians about love, our mother taught us about love, faith and hope. She showed us an Agape love. Thanks, mother, a job well done.
