ECKENSTEIN
Myrtle L. Eckenstein, 100, of Lima and formerly of Van Wert, died at 8:53 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Springview Manor in Lima.
She was born September 24, 1909, in Union Township in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Alfred and Maude (Prichard) Bates. On October 23, 1934, she married John R. Eckenstein, who preceded her in death in 1970.
Survivors include a sister, Betty J. (Doyle) Kohli-Snider of Lima, and several nieces and nephews.
Four brothers, Alfred J. Bates, Theodore A. Bates, Paul R. Bates, and Maurice Bates, in infancy; and three sisters, Maudie Chawlcraft, Margaret Sells and Ruth Springer.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 27, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials: First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, American Cancer Society, Community Health Professionals or the Van Wert Fire Department EMS Squad.

ROSE
Inez I. Rose, 75, of Paulding, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Luther Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born May 4, 1934, in Paulding County, the daughter of the late Rev. John W. and Maude F. (Davis) Slane. On April 18, 1959, she married Emerson Lee “Buzz” Rose, who preceded her in death on December 29, 1999.
Survivors include a brother, Floyd (Darlene) Slane of Eufaula, Okla.; one sister, Mildred (Edward) Elson of Payne; and many nieces and nephews.
A brother, Samuel Slane; and two sisters, Naomi Slane and Betty Manz, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 27, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Junction. Burial will be in Dotterer Cemetery in Auglaize Township, Paulding County.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday, February 26, at Den Herder Funeral Home in Paulding and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

WITTLER
Norman Joseph Wittler, 88, of Delphos, died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Delphos.
He was born June 25, 1921, in Fort Jennings, the son of the late John and Emma (Ellerbrock) Wittler. On January 26, 1963, he married Norma (Nomina) Wittler, who survives in Delphos.
Other survivors include a son, Joe (Louise) Wittler of Delphos; one daughter, Mary Ann (Greg) George of Lima; five brothers, Kenny (Carol) Wittler of Ottoville, Eugene (Normie) Wittler of Defiance, Leroy (Jane) Wittler of Fort Jennings and Robert (Joyce) Wittler and John (Mary Lou) Wittler, both of Delphos; a sister, Eileen Calvelage of Delphos; and three grandchildren.
Three brothers, Elmer, Leander and Harold Wittler; and a sister, Rita Will, also preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 27, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos, with Father Melvin Verhoff officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Delphos.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 26, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake will be held at 7:30 that evening.
