JOHNSON

Rex Eugene Johnson, 87, of Mendon, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at The Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford, where he had been a resident.

He was born July 28, 1922, in Summitville, Ind., the son of the late Charles R. and Hazel (Dunlap) Johnson. On September 28, 1947, he married June M. (Shaw) Johnson, who preceded him in death on June 2, 2009.

Survivors include four sons, Dr. Terrence (Connie) Johnson of Van Wert, Jeffrey (Pat) Johnson of Mendon, Steven (Brenda) Johnson of Ohio City, and Dr. Daclynn (Lori) Johnson of Rupert, Idaho; three daughters, Janelle (John) Sites of Rockford, Lyndel (Bill) Smith of Ohio City and Kimberly (Ed) Smith of Mendon; four brothers, Preston (Martha) Johnson of Poneta, Ind., Leon (Anna) Johnson of Bluffton, Ind., and Jay Johnson and Ross Johnson, both of Geneva, Ind.; four sisters, Lucile Elam of Celina, Gaye Turner of Huntington Beach, Calif., Jean Oxender of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Patty (Bob) Adams of East Lansing, Mich.; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Three brothers, Wayne, Wendell and Max Johnson; a sister, Ina Mote; and three grandchildren, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 16, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Pastor Don Clinger officiating. Burial will be in Tomlinson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-7 p.m. Friday, January 15, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Habitat for Humanity in Van Wert or Celina.
