HAMMOND
Orville L. Hammond, 60, of Van Wert, died at 2 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Curt and Edith (Hertle) Hammond. On July 5, 1988, he married Judy P. (Oakley)
Hammond, who survives in Van Wert.
Mr. Hammond had been employed in the maintenance department of the former Lincolnway Home. He was a member of the Paulding Eagles lodge and a social member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 in Van Wert.
In addition to his wife, survivors include seven children, Tina Hammond, Eric (Allison) Hammond, and Megan (Steve) Girod, all of Van Wert, Neil (Tonya) Hammond of Ohio City, Stephanie (Jerry) Hare of Wilshire, Alma Rose (Matt) Powell of Ottawa, Kan., and Tracy (Jeremy) Priest of Pittsfield, Ill.; a brother, Jim (Treva) Hammond of Convoy; one sister, Mary (Joe) Pissaro of Van Wert; and 16 grandchildren.
A brother, Sam Hammond, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point.
The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at the funeral home.

LOCKHART
Rhea I. Lockhart, 92, of Ohio City, died at 7:05 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.
She was born October 5, 1916, in Liberty Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Gertrude (Walters) Ault. On August 22, 1936, she married Dale Edmond Lockhart, who preceded her in death on July 11, 1990.
Survivors include two sons, Gary (Laura) Lockhart and Rick (Dorothy) Lockhart, both of Columbus; three daughters, Betty (Walter) Cox and Vicky (Rod) Clifton, both of Ohio City, and Wanda Lockhart of Van Wert; a daughter-in-law, Joan C. Lockhart of Ohio City; 16 grandchildren; 17 stepgrandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 15 stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
A son, Jimmy Alan Lockhart; two brothers, Wayne and Waldo Ault; four sisters, Evelyn Oechsle, Arlo Rader, Martha Sharp and Ava Ault; three grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Jay Nesselroad officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.
The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.

WELCH
Sadako Welch of El Paso, Texas, and formerly of Van Wert, Paulding and Grover Hill, died Friday, July 3, 2009, at her residence.
She was born January 23, 1932, in Kyoto, Japan. She married Ersel Welch, who preceded her in death in 1998.
Survivors include her longtime friends, Russell “Rusty” Florence; a son, Daniel (Valerie) Sanders; a daughter, Vonda Griffith; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother and two sisters in Japan.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, in Middle Creek Cemetery in Grover Hill, with the Rev. Ben Lowell officiating.
There will be no visitation.
