HOFFMAN

Phyllis A. (Smith) Hoffman, 70, of Paulding, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Ind., where she had been a patient six days.

She was born February 3, 1939, in Paulding County, the daughter of the late Ralph and Lenore (Smith) Shaner. On March 18, 1956, she married Jack R. Hoffman, who survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Denise (Dee) Renollet of Cecil, Linda (Bill) Miller of Spencerville, Ind., and Jackie (Bryan) Hanlon of Fort Wayne; a brother, Denis (Paulette) Shaner of Paulding; one sister, Pamela (Kevin) Bauer of Briceton; five grandchildren; and her loving dog, Oscar.

An infant son; one infant daughter; a brother, Paul Nartker; and one sister, Judy Grueter Donnett, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, at Den Herder Funeral Home in Paulding, with the Rev. Greg Bibler officiating. Burial will be in Paulding Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at the funeral home.

BRIDGMAN

Karen D. Bridgman, 54, of Van Wert, died at 1:50 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Community Health Professionals’ Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.

She was born November 5, 1954, in Hamtramck, Mich., the daughter of the late Arthur Robert Bridgman and Joan (Cusmano) Van Metre.

Survivors included two brothers, Kenneth Bridgman of Van Wert and G. Scott (Cindy) Van Metre of Cleveland; two sisters, Deb Harmon of Van Wert and Susan Leiendecker of Venedocia; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 29, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with Father Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at the funeral home.

HUFFINE

Rev. Albert Paul Huffine, 86, of Van Wert, died at 2:10 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Van Wert Manor nursing home.

He was born September 18, 1922, in Liberty Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late Ora Phelan and Velma (Hertel) Huffine. He married Bernice Charlene (Miller) Huffine more than 50 years ago, and she survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include two sons, David Lawrence (Mitzi D.) Huffine of Van Wert and Paul James (Edna) Huffine of Oceanside, Calif.; a daughter, Carolyn N. (Wardell) Smith of Alexander, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Iola Huffine of Sumter, S.C.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A brother, John P. Huffine, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, July 3, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Donald Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, July 2.

MONROE

James Henry “Buck” Monroe, 73, of Hicksville and formerly of Paulding, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Hickory Creek of Hicksville.

He was born August 18, 1935, in Adams County, the son of the late James D. and Mary Lou (Bradford) Monroe.

Survivors include two sons, James D. Monroe and Martin “Joe” Monroe, both of Defiance; two daughters, Sandra Sue Monroe of Napoleon and Katherine L. Monroe of Defiance; a stepdaughter, Robin R. Begley of Oakwood; one brother, Albert (Mary) Monroe of Paulding; four sisters, Iva Mae “Ivy” Garver, Almalee (Danny) Riggenbach, and Kathryn “Pauline” (Russell) Parrish, all of Paulding, and Wilma (James) Ashcraft of New Haven, Ind.; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Debra Ann Monroe; two brothers, Walter Monroe and Jerry Monroe, who died in infancy; and three grandchildren, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Den Herder Funeral Home in Paulding. Burial will be in Wiltsie Cemetery in Payne, with graveside military rites performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 587.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Monday, June 29, at from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
