THATCHER
Charles Franklin Thatcher, 87, died at 10:50 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born March 11, 1923, the son of the late Elvin Thatcher and Clema (Ashbaugh) Thatcher Zaner. In June 1941, he married Mary A. (Hamman) Thatcher, who preceded him in death in July 1992. He then married Evelyn Ulrey Thatcher in April 1994, and she preceded him in death in February 2005.
Survivors include two sons, David (Janice) Thatcher of Middle Point and Ben (Deb) Thatcher of Van Wert; two daughters, Nancy (Dan) Frantom and Connie (Gayle) Klinger, both of Convoy; eight stepchildren, Julie (Tom) Miller, Eddie (Susan) Ulrey, Lyle (Terry) Ulrey and Jan Ulrey, all of Van Wert, Dean (Sandra) Ulrey of Rockford, Doreen (Jeff) Krugh of Ohio City, Rocky (Susan) Ulrey of Swanton and Renard Ulrey of Fort Collins, Colo.; a brother, Floyd (Rosie) Thatcher of Middle Point; three sisters, Annebelle Johns and Ruth Prater, both of Van Wert, and Marilyn (Charles) Jones of Antwerp; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Glenn and Harold Thatcher, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 19, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Philip Zielinski officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert and an hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Preferred memorials: Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Community Health Professionals-Hospice or a charity of donor’s choice.
OTTE
Gerhard E. “Junior” Otte Jr., 73, of Delphos, died at 9 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, at his residence.
He was born December 1, 1936, in Ottoville, the son of the late Gerhard and Dorthy (Purdy) Otte. On February 16, 1973, he married Marilyn (Wilson) Otte, who survives in Delphos.
Other survivors include a sister, Barbara (J. David) Evans of Van Wert.
A brother, Kenneth Otte, who died in infancy, and one sister, Janice Myers, also preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ottoville.
The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake will be held at 7:30 that evening.
