CLUM

Rudolph J. Clum, 83, of Holland (Ohio) and formerly of Van Wert and Monroe, Mich., passed away at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo.

He was born August 4, 1926, in Toledo, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Bartus) Clum. On June 17, 1950, at St. Mary’s Church in Monroe, Mich., he married Marie (Miller) Clum, who survives in Holland.

Mr. Clum was a 1945 graduate of Monroe High School in Monroe, Mich., and attended the University of Toledo for two years. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the South Pacific and Uriyang, Korea. He was member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, an usher and Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a member of the Stone Oak Country Club.

Mr. Clum was a 34-year veteran of the corrugated box industry with Consolidated Packaging in Monroe, Mich., and Tecumseh Corrugated Box Company in Van Wert and Tecumseh, Mich., retiring in 1990. He was an enthusiastic sportsman, greatly enjoying and excelling at semi-pro basketball, golf (four holes-in-one) and bowling.

Visitation was held Friday, November 27, at Walker Funeral Home in Toledo, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial followed in Resurrection Cemetery.

BERRY

William Delmore Berry, 97, of Berne, Ind., and formerly of Rockford, died at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at Chalet Village in Berne.

He was born October 3, 1912, in Rockford, the son of the late William S. Berry and Ida Sims. On August 5, 1937, he married Mary H. Taylor, who preceded him in death in 1995.

Survivors include three sons, AJ Berry of Berne, Dennis (Sharon) Berry of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Raymond (Julia) Berry of Geneva, Ind.; three daughters, Mary Ellen (Roger) Scott of Berne, Bonnie (Andrew) Roessner of Celina and Janet Evans of Geneva; a daughter-in-law, Wendy Berry of Willshire; 25 grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A son, James; one daughter, Shirley Ann; two brothers, Charles and Guy Berry; and three sisters, Effie Johnson and two infant sisters, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 28, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, November 27, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

ALDRED

Lela Bernice Aldred, 85, of Lima and formerly a resident of Waterford, Mich., died at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home in Lima.

She was born May 24, 1924, in Terre Haute, Ind., the daughter of the late Charles Russel and Carrie (Davis) Smith. She married Clarence “Justin” Aldred, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include three children, Phyllis (Dan) Cronenwett of Middle Point, Garry (Vickie) Aldred of Ortonville, Mich., and Clarence Justin Aldred Jr. of Adrian, Mich.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Beverly Aldred Knight of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Two children and a brother, Robert E. Lee Smith, also preceded her in death.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at Ottawa Park Cemetery in Waterford, Mich., at a later date.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements were handled by Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert.
