NOFER

Jacqueline “Jackie” Nofer, 72, of Van Wert, died at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.

She was born May 10, 1937, in Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles and Louise (Baxter) Elder. On Sunday, June 17, 1956, she married Donald A. Nofer, who preceded her in death on July 2, 2009.

Mrs. Nofer was a retired employee of Huffy Manufacturing. She was a member of the Van Wert Chapter of Women of the Moose and was a volunteer for Van Wert hospice.

Survivors include four children, Robin (Kenneth) Foehl of Convoy, Timothy A. Nofer of Lewiston, Idaho, and Mark A. (Jenny) Nofer and Renee A. Smith, both of Van Wert; a brother, Charles Robert Elder of Convoy; one sister, Jane Taylor of Convoy; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Private graveside funeral services will be conducted at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

The family will receive friends from 2-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert.

SHAFFER

Vergil Edgar Shaffer, 95, of Rockford, died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.

He was born July 6, 1914, in Mercer County, the son of the late Lewis Frankline and Nellie Mae (Mihm) Shaffer. On December 25, 1936, in Findlay, he married Helen Pauline (Krugh) Shaffer, who preceded him in death on June 30, 2005.

Survivors include a son, Marvin (Vickie) Shaffer of Galena; one daughter, Carolyn (Roger) Jamieson of Van Wert; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A brother, Richard Shaffer; two sisters, Mildred Wolfe and Beatrice Williams; and a grandson, Gary Jamieson, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Steven G. Waterman officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.

The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. Monday, October 12, and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.

BRADFORD

George E. Bradford, 70, of Defiance, died Saturday, October 10, 2009, at Toledo Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks.

He was born June 19, 1939, in Putnam County, the son of the late Bert L. and Helen M. (Hutchins) Bradford. On December 15, 1978, he married Margaret M. (Richmond) Bradford, who survives in Defiance.

Other survivors include three daughters, Kim (Jerry) Shaffer of Grover Hill, Kristi (Jason) Farquhar of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Peggy Diaz of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

A brother, David L. Bradford, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 17, at Den Herder Funeral Home in Paulding. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery in Charloe, where Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3360 of Defiance will perform graveside military rites.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Friday, October 16, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
