SHOCK

Max C. Shock, 93, of Rockford, died Thursday morning, October 15, 2009, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he was a patient.

He was born October 16, 1915, in Blackcreek Township, Mercer County, the son of the late Ralph A. and Ivadel (Dudgeon) Shock. On December 29, 1945, he married Dorothy Pauline (Wright) Shock, who survives in Rockford.

Other survivors include two sisters, Martha Jane Hellwarth of Celina and Madge Shock of Rockford; a sister-in-law, Velma Hunt of Carol, Mich.; a brother-in-law, Royce (Mary Ellen) Wright of Portland, Ind.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 19, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Pastor Chip Steffy officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 18, and an hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

NIEMEYER

Joseph R. “Dick” Niemeyer, 80, of Delphos, died at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Vancrest Health Care Center of Delphos.

He was born August 27, 1929, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the son of the late Joseph M. and Elsie (Deventer) Niemeyer. In May 1971, he married Joyce (Bowers) Niemeyer, who survives in Lima.

Other survivors include three sons, Dennis Allen Niemeyer of Seattle, Wash., David Joseph (Missy) Niemeyer of Huntsville, Ala., and Rodney Jay (Lori) Niemeyer of Delphos; two daughters, Deborah Ann (Michael) Spurlock of Dallas, Texas, and Laura Kristine Shaffer of Lima; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A son, Anthony Joseph Niemeyer; one sister, Bernadine Freed; a half-brother, Devon Deventer; and a son-in-law, Christopher Shaffer, also preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 19, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos, with Father Jacob Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Delphos Veterans Council.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, October 18, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake will be held at 7:30 that evening, as well as Knights of Columbus rosary service.
