Lillian Ruth Sheets, 91, of Van Wert, died at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.

She was born February 23, 1918, in Wren, the daughter of the late William Elza and Della (Morehead) Swoveland. On June 19, 1948, she married Harold Franklin Sheets, who preceded her in death on November 25, 1991.

Mrs. Sheets retired from Crestview Local Schools after seven years as a secretary. She was also a cafeteria worker for six years. She was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church and a former member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. She also belonged to the Wren Garden Club and was a graduate of Wren High School.

Survivors include a son, Michael D. (Nancy) Sheets of Van Wert; one daughter, Della Kathryn (Sam) Hauter of Van Wert; two brothers, Dorse Swoveland of Van Wert and DeLloyd Swoveland of Apache Junction, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Tony (Holli) Hauter, Tracy (Eugene) Ruger and Terrence (Kirsten) Hauter, all of Van Wert; and seven great-grandchildren, Anthony Hauter, Kiley Wortman, Katie Hauter, Tyler Ruger, Nathan Ruger, Allison Hauter and Natalie Hauter.

A brother, Doyt V. Swoveland, and six sisters, Irma Koeppel, Berene Dellinger, Edith Smith, Doreen Clifton, Catherine Mills and Alma Sheets, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 18, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Chuck Glover officiating. Burial will be in Willshire Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 17, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Kingsley United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
