MARTIN
Virgil Anthony “Tuffy” Martin, 72, of Antwerp
and formerly of Delphos, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009, at
Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born September 11, 1937, inn Delphos, the son of the late Rudolph Martin and Leona (Bear) Hetrick. On June 2, 1957, he was united in marriage with Jane (Muter) Martin of Elgin, who survives.
Mr. Martin taught at CMI Biblical College for 10 years and worked at B.F. Goodrich in New Haven, Ind., for 25 years. He was a 1955 graduate of Delphos Jefferson and graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University. He was a member of CMI Ministries of Fort Wayne and ministered at camp meetings, churches and wedding ceremonies. He enjoyed bass fishing, knife collecting, vacationing in the Great Smoky Mountains, smoking his pipe, and loved to watch Sherlock Holmes movies and hunt with his sons.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, John (Melissa) Martin of Fort Wayne and James Martin of Delphos; a daughter, Jandy (Rick) Hackbarth of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Beverly Allen of Lima and Linda Kruger of Lakeview; seven grandchildren, Noah and Jasmine Hackbarth, Brittany and Brandy Martin, Courtney and Alexandria and Mandie Martin; and two great-grandchildren, Jade and Elijah Jesko.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, September 21, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos. Burial will be in Tomlinson Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, September 20, and an hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

ETGEN
Phyllis Sue Etgen, 63, of Van Wert, died at 6:55 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009, at her residence.
She was born September 14, 1946, in Olive Hill, Ky., the daughter of Sara (Garvin) Kanable, who survives in Perrysburg, and the late Robert Kanable. She married Raymond E. Etgen, who survives in Van Wert.
Mrs. Etgen was a homemaker and cook. She was a member of Amvets Post 698 in Middle Point, was a NASCAR fan and loved quilting and crocheting.
In addition to her mother and husband, survivors include a son, Raymond “Bud” Etgen of Van Wert, two brothers, Paul Griffey of Lucas and Jim Kanable of Findlay; and a cousin, Dolly Bloodhart of Willard.
A son, David A. Etgen, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, September 21, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point.
The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, September 20, at the funeral home.
