SCHUMM
Milton M. Schumm, 87, of Van Wert, died at 9:53
p.m. Thursday, September 24, 2009, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice
Center.
He was born November 8, 1921, in Willshire, the son of the late William J. and Mary (Sauer) Schumm. On November 1, 1947, he married Betty M. (Ross) Schumm, who survives in Van Wert.
Mr. Schumm was a former co-owner of F&S Flo
or
Covering for 30 years. He also worked at Aeroquip Corporation for nine years
until he retired. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert and
was very active in the church, serving on numerous boards and committees. He
served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe and had fought in the
Battle of the Bulge. He was a 1940 graduate of Willshire High School and
graduated from Huntington College with bachelor’s degrees in both mathematics
and science. He was a member of American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert. Milton was
a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Denny W. (Linda) Schumm of Van Wert and David M. (Jan) Schumm of Bryan; a sister, Irma Koehlinger of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and four grandchildren, Bryn, Lucas, Katie and Jonathan Schumm.
A daughter, Nancy L. Schumm; and one sister, Elsie Schumm, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, September 28, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Michael Saylor officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with graveside military rites performed by the combined honors units of Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert.
The family will receive friends from 1-7 p.m. Sunday, September 27, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert and an hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Preferred memorials: Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Van Wert Manor Activities Fund or Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

LEWELLYN
Antoinette A. “Toni” Lewellyn, 98, formerly of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Delphos, died Thursday, September 24, 2009, at Indian Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center in Corydon, Ind.
She was born June 5, 1911, in Delphos, the daughter of the late Lewis and Katherine (Nolte) Lause. On December 29, 1962, she married James R. “Dick” Lewellyn, who preceded her in death on June 1, 1984.
Survivors include five nieces and four nephews, and 17 great-nieces and nephews.
A brother, Norbert Lause, and two sisters, Ruth Hemmelgarn and Alice Jenkins, also preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, September 28, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Delphos.
The family will receive friends an hour prior to services Monday at the church.
